Its that time of year when its just really hot. Its so hot, my brain feels like it is melting.
You may have noticed that your power bills are abnormally high. That’s not just the heat, that’s all the power bill increases. Annoyed? Remember to vote in the PSC elections in November – they set your power bills – you have the power to create change.
And let’s create more change. Science change. Because you also may have noticed that science is having a bad moment in this country. And, yes, it feels overwhelming, but every time you have a conversation, with your neighbor, or cashier, or barista, or fellow MARTA rider about the positive impacts of science – you are sparking change and reinforcing the positive.
Want to keep reinforcing the positive? Come to an event!
Aug 3 – Check out the ATL Free Fair and build community. Our very own Dr Michael Czajkowski
Aug 14 – Join the Sci4Ga Community at our monthly online meeting to discuss happenings and get involved!
Aug 17 – Participate in community science by testing water quality on the South River
Aug 26 – Learn how to grow some mushrooms indoors! Its some serious fungi fun.
Sept 19 – Science Stand Up Comedy! Mad Scientists, Sad Jokes! Our semi-annual Jazz Hands (featured on WABE!) is back. Laughter comes from incongruity, and man oh man, life is pretty incongruitous right now.
Its that time of year when we say a fond farewell to our summer interns. A huge thank you to Kadin, Wendy, Jasmine, Tristan, Rebecca, Treasure, Joanna, and Wyatt. They provided great information to the Good, the Missing, and the Ugly. They helped us to make data centers good neighbors. They analyzed our program effectiveness. They built us new data stories. We are nothing without our tireless interns and their boundless enthusiasm.
What happened in July? Aside from the amazing interns, we had a few events.
July 20 – we had an excellent Climate Survival Training about remediating lead in soil
July 23 – we learned, gasp, vaccines really are safe. Want some talking points? Check out the summary, talking points, and video here.
As always, we cannot do this without you, our loyal supporters. Thank you for making Science Matter Here! Think we are doing awesome? Please consider donating to make sure we can keep on keeping on.
