Issues of Interest

Our mission is to highlight how science can impact people’s lives and advocate for the responsible use of science in public policy. We do this by providing clear, concise, and actionable information on topics of interest to Georgia. We want to empower you, communities, and policymakers with the most relevant and up-to-date science and data.

Patience and persistence in the form of relentless incrementalism is how sound research is done, and how real progress is made. Here you’ll find information about the issues we are tracking and tools to help you educate and advocate.

Power Burden

Our power bills are on the rise. Right now, from pipelines to data centers to the Public Service Commission – decisions are being made that impact our power bills and electricity generation for the next 40 years. Get informed. Pay attention. Understand the options.

Data Center Invasion

Data Centers drive us forward, but via new economic and resource use paradigms. We must understand that they represent a brave new world. They can be a productive part of Georgia’s landscape, but only if we regulate and incentivize them in new ways.

Gas Pipeline Expansion

Currently, there is a proposal to expand the SSE4 Gas Pipeline that run through Georgia. Why? To power data centers. Or to export natural gas. Either way – it isn’t for the people of Georgia. But it does impact our health, our power bills, and our environment.

Environmental Health & Justice

From food to water to land – supply, access, and utilization impacts our health, our lives, the economy, and the environment. Unfortunately, the burdens of environmental impacts on community health and wellbeing are disproportionally distributed and often have an outsized effect on those with few resources.

Combat Misinformation

Misinformation isn’t just about blatantly false claims – instead it often mixes bits of truth with emotional appeals and repeated exposure to create a “sticky” narrative. Combating misinformation requires factchecking and building strong, inclusive communities where diverse perspectives are respected, and honest dialogue is prioritized.

Save Science Watch

The number of issues we face may seem overwhelming, part of the strategy we are up against is called “flood the zone”, where the goal is to start so many fires that we are overwhelmed by where to start and end up giving up. But we aren’t giving up. Stay informed and stay engaged.

Science Catalyzers

Throughout the year, and especially during the legislative session, there are opportunities to reach out to policy makers and government officials to provide information and commentary on specific issues (especially those highlighted above).

If you would like to be contacted about these opportunities, please click the button to sign up for our newsletter and to sign up for the Catalyzer Action Network – so we can send you specific calls to action.
