Oct 2025 – Plenty of Treats, No Tricks

Jaguars! Spiders! and Mopeds! Oh My!

It may be cold and rainy outside, but you can’t stop us. We had an action packed October. We viewed a beautiful and moving documentary Saving Jaguars: Saving Ourselves, Michael led a riveting Climate Survival Training on Moped Repair, and we all faced our fears (or confirmed our liking) of spiders with a spine-tingling talk from Erin Ricketts.

As we wind down the year (less than 5 weeks to actually get things done), we are looking forward to spending quality time with our family and friends. If you are dreading that turkey with Aunt Mildred and her over-the-top political views, maybe get inspired for a new way to talk to her by watching Michael’s misinformation talk.

Don't forget to vote Nov 4th!

Things to do in November

In case you missed it – there are a lot of data centers in Georgia and even more are on the way. We’ve got some events for you:

  • Nov 7, 10am-1pm – Data Center Tour – Our good friends at GA WAND are hosting an event where they will visit (I think only the outside) a South Fulton data center and then discuss over lunch the community impacts of these facilities.
  • Nov 8 930am-430pm – Grassroots Organizing Workshop – spend the day learning about data centers and effective grassroots organizing strategies. Meet fellow advocates. Need more Data Center information and an information toolkit? Look no further: Data Centers: Transparency Makes Good Neighbors

Non Data Center Things to Do:

Nov 2: CST: Growing Edible Mushrooms

Nov 6: Sci4Ga Monthly Community Meeting. Learn! Share! Engage! All from your couch.

Nov 9: CST: Build a Wall

Nov 13: GSJ: Childhood Morality and Development Lab.

Food Banks/Pantries

With SNAP benefits ending and the federal shutdown continuing, hunger is going to be worse than ever for many of the most vulnerable and many others. Please check out the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s interactive map to find free food pantries in your area that can help.  We will only get through this as a community that helps each other.

Bonus for you!

Thank you for your support of Science for Georgia. We would be nothing without you and your support. Special bonus to you for reading this blog. If you donate $50 or more to Sci4Ga via this link – I will leave you off of all end-of-year Fundraising emails. Science and your inbox will thank you!
