Science for Georgia, Dogwood Alliance, Emory CHARTER, and Center for Black Women’s Wellness are the proud hosts of an annual Environmental Justice and Climate Protection Conference.
This conference brings together community leaders, concerned citizens, elected officials, academics, and industry experts to break information silos through information sharing focused on identifying solutions to heal and improve the health and environment of all Georgians.
Attendees receive solutions-oriented information on the dimensions of environmental health that impact Georgia residents. With sessions on environmental justice impacts, translating knowledge into action, and community coalition building, we discuss, and more importantly, actively brainstorm, what community work can be done right now to move the needle on improving environmental health.
EJ&CP is a rolling-up of Sci4Ga’s mission areas – clearly communicating evidence-based best-practices, facilitating dialogue, and working with various stakeholders to drive change.
Past Successes:
- In 2022 conference attendees were keen to pursue EJ legislation, and in 2023 a working group was formed that centered around this long-term goal.
- In 2023 attendees asked for more information about community programs; as such, Sci4Ga hosted a Fireside chat series with four community organizations.
- In 2024 attendees asked for more advocacy training and to advocate for community members to be part of committees that create funding Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Advocacy training can be found here and will be hosted several times during the upcoming months.
- We are brainstorming the RFP right now.
