I just got off the phone with a woman from Augusta who is working hard to alleviate food insecurity in that area. It was a great phone call – lots of positive energy and lots of follow-up actions. Importantly, it reinforced that what we do here at Sci4Ga has lasting effects. We held our food security roundtable in 2021 – and we are still expanding that knowledge, carrying forward momentum, and connecting people and partners.
Later this week I am talking to someone in Germany (!) about a plastic to fuel plant.
Our gaggle of summer interns (NINE of them – which can be a crash, murder, pod, aggregation…pick your favorite animal grouping name) started on May 15th. I cannot wait to see what lasting effects they will have on making science matter here in Georgia. By the end of the summer, we will have a stable method to contribute to our data science project, a Catalyzer toolkit, an Advocacy toolkit, and plans to carry forward our Environmental Justice & Climate Protection conference outcomes.
Which, BTW, get your tickets now to the EJ&CP conference – June 15th!
More things I am proud of from May:
- You – our loyal readers – made our Spring Campaign a success! A huge thank you!
- We learned about sustainable fashion from Tanjuria Willis at May’s Atlanta Science Tavern.
- We had a successful presentation at the GA Climate Conference about taking science to your legislators. Thank you to Rep Spencer Frye, Jennette Gayer from Env Georgia, and Doug Teper from GA Conservation Voters for making that presentation a smashing success.
- We learned about solar panels and got hands on with assembly at Climate Survival Training.
