Join us as we talk with Bill Green from the Common Market as he talks about sustainable farming.
Bill will be sharing experiences and insights from The Common Market’s strategic plan around supporting sustainable agriculture, strengthening local partnerships and rebuilding the regional food economy through policy and advocacy efforts on the state and federal level. He will discuss how The Common Market is investing in local farming by highlighting sustainable growing practices and in telling the stories of local farmers to potential buyers and local influencers. He will share stories of impact on regional economies and social justice through its work. There will be discussion around the great mobilization of effort to provide widescale emergency food response during the recent pandemic.
Bill is the Executive Director of the Common Market Southeast, a non-profit food distribution organization whose mission is to bring good fresh food grown by small to mid-sized family-owned farms to local communities. The Common Market works primarily through anchor institutions such as schools, universities, hospitals, and community organizations to reach the maximum number of people creating improved access to local food. Bill serves over 30 local farms and as many community organizations.
Prior to coming to The Common Market, Bill worked at The Kroger Co. for 18 years in various roles including Legal Counsel, Store Manager, District Manager and Vice President of Operations. Bill has also practiced law in the areas of civil litigation and general corporate work. Bill is a graduate of Howard University where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in business management and the University of Kentucky where he received his juris doctorate. Bill is also very involved in the community having volunteered for organizations such as The Boy Scouts of America and Junior Achievement, and currently serves on the board of the Automotive Training Center, helping young people overcome difficult backgrounds to gain a career in automotive repair.
