I hope everyone’s Maycember Madness was productive and not too overwhelming.
We are very excited that the fifth annual Environmental Justice and Climate Protection (EJ&CP) Conference is just around the corner, June 11 & 12, on Georgia Tech’s campus! This conference started out as a shared dream between Dogwood Alliance and Science for Georgia and has grown into a statewide conference – by the people – for the people – to ensure we share, collaborate, and act to save our people and save our plant. Pollution anywhere is pollution everywhere – and we can’t just talk about it – we must act, locally, and collaboratively, to make change. We are excited that this vision is now shared by our co-hosts: Emory CHARTER, Center for Black Women’s Wellness, and Center for Sustainable Communities and supported by amazing sponsors.
Like the rest of the world – May was full of hellos and goodbyes. Our fabulous spring interns said adieu – you’ll see their work in the EJ&CP, additional data center information, and additions to our Data4Ga content. We welcomed nine new summer interns and – of course – they are already contributing and you will see their work appear over the next few months.
As usual – May was jam packed with events: THREE Climate Survival Trainings where we learned about compost, bike repair, and water filtration. TWO data center events. And ONE sips of science. Hands on learning and hands on community building (and, for good measure, hand-on beer drinking).
On a personal note – my family is moving to Northern Virginia as my husband takes on a new, exciting job. I am devastated to be leaving Georgia and Science for Georgia. I have poured my heart and soul into this organization, I have been uplifted by the amazing community we have built, the work we have accomplished, and the change we have created. When you love what you do you never have to work a day in your life. I am truly blessed to work with Patrick, Michael, and Jessica – who also pour their time and talent into this amazing organization.
Science for Georgia is going to continue to do great things. We will ensure that is a smooth transition. Also – if you are interested – you can apply for my job here: Now Hiring – Executive Director – Science for Georgia
