AST: Disparities in Alzheimer’s Research & Care

African Americans are 2 times as likely to be affected by Alzheimer’s Disease, but participate in research in much lower numbers.

This Virtual Science Tavern will focus on health disparities in current Alzheimer’s care and research, differences in symptoms between various racial groups, and how people can work to alleviate disparities.

Speaker:
Maria Misiura, PhD., is a postdoctoral researcher at Georgia State university starting a position in the Dotson lab. Her research interests lie in using neuroimaging methods to characterize health disparities in dementia, and the overlap between Alzheimer’s and vascular disease. She also works as the communications liason for the Tri-instutional Center for Translational Research in Neuroimaging and Data Science (TReNDS center), and loves talking about their innovative research.

Our friends at Fulton County Library have provided a list of ways to learn more about this topic. Check it out.
