AST: The Science of Beer

What goes into making a high quality beer and why would a brewery need dedicated scientists to make it happen? Daniel LePage, Director of Quality at Creature Comforts Brewing Co. presents an informative talk on the science of brewing beer – one of the original scientific endeavors. Discussions include information on why the brewing industry’s collaborative nature makes it incredibly unique, what new projects are being pursued by breweries across the world, and how you can evaluate beer yourself.

Daniel LePage earned a B.S. (Biochemistry) from the University of Tulsa and Ph.D. (Biological Sciences) from Vanderbilt University. His research background includes chemotherapeutics, insect development, phages, and novel uses for bacteria in disease suppression. He has worked in the brewing industry for over five years and currently heads the Quality Department at Creature Comforts Brewing Company, overseeing all things QA/QC at three different facilities. In his free time he enjoys long-distance hiking , running, and cooking strange and new recipes.
