Fences and canopies don’t have to be made from wood and metal and such. Living structures can be made from Willow! In this workshop we will:
- Learn to identify the continent’s largest and most common willow species, Salix nigra, also known as black willow, swamp willow, sauz, or gulf black willow.
- Learn about the tree’s ecological importance, medicinal and other human uses, and its history and mythology.
- Discuss the practice of coppicing trees, how to do it, and why.
- (HANDS ON!!!) Assist with the harvesting and planting of willow whips to create a living structure(s) for the garden.
