Community Outreach Programming

Georgia Science Junction
Climate Survival Training | Science For Georgia

Get involved by sponsoring and/or hosting our community outreach programming: Georgia Science Junction or Climate Survival Training.

At Georgia Science Junction scientists and researchers engage with the public via accessible & interactive presentations on interesting topics. This program started as the Atlanta Science Tavern and events are held in community spaces (eg pubs and coffee shops).
Impact and outcome: scientists gain experience communicating to the general public, and the audiences better understand and appreciate science and technology.
Recent topics: Volcanos, Urban Water Management, Fast Fashion, Vaccines. Held about once/month

Climate Survival Trainings are hands on activities to increase resilience, build community, and develop sustainability knowledge and skills. This program started in response to feedback from young adults (ages ~18-35) who find that the generalized anxiety they experience around climate change is reduced when they learn “survival” skills.
Impact and outcome: Improved mental health for young adults and increased sustainability education.
Recent topics: composting, starting plants from seeds, simple electrical work, basic woodworking, growing edible mushrooms.  Held about once/month.

We offer single, seasonal, annual, and eighteen-month event sponsorship packages. For each time period you can be a Gold or Silver level sponsor.
