Food forests are an ancient indigenous technique for stabilizing our sources of food. WAWA has a great location at their Bush Mountain Outdoor Activity Center where they are bringing an old food forest back to life!

IvoRi Schley will give us a tour on February 11th to show us about how this procedure is coming along, how the community is involved, and other farming and education happening at that location! Explore a beautiful space with plenty to share about black history, agroforestry, and environmental justice. Come join us in learning from them! Free Parking!

IvoRi Schley and Nallah Muhammad are co-founders of Afro Agriculture (Afro AG). Afro AG provides nature, arts, and self-sufficiency for historically excluded communities in Georgia and North Carolina. Since 2018, Afro AG has built a foundation of farming, environmental education, and specialty workshops such as yoga, fiber arts, dance, bushcrafting, and outdoor home economics. Ethnobotanist from South Atlanta, Schley completed her Bachelors in Urban Horticulture at North Carolina A&T State University. Schley has interned at Michigan, Tanzania, and beyond to understand biofuels, soil science, and the realities of global food insecurity. Schley currently pursues a Masters in Geosciences at Georgia State University.

Afro AG partners with The West Atlanta Watershed Alliance (WAWA) to implement farm and education coordination on Muscogee Land. Workshops, field trips, homeschool programs, and farm operations manifest at the 22-acre old-growth forest Bush Mountain.  WAWA, located at the Outdoor Activity Center, serves Bush Mountain and Oakland City neighborhoods in West Atlanta watersheds. Join Hike Lead IvoRi Schley on Sunday February 11th to learn more about food forest restoration, upcoming community events, and the rich cultural history of Bush Mountain. Free Parking! RSVP for address.
