This will have impacts on the health and safety of those near the pipeline\, and most-likely raise the energy bills of customers across the state of Georgia.\nSo yes – this is related to your power bills and to data centers. \nScience for Georgia and partners have been working together to map the impact of the proposed expansion. Come learn more about what’s in the path of the pipeline\, what it means for you\, and how you can use our interactive map to learn more. \n \nSpeaker Names: \nSci4Ga Data Team – Amy Sharma\, PhD\, Executive Director of Sci4Ga and Jessica Owens\, Data for Georgia\nSpeaker Bios: \n \nAmy Sharma\, PhD – \nAmy Sharma\, PhD\, is the Executive Director of Science for Georgia. Her career has spanned across industry\, academia\, and government. She was VP of Product for Prediko\, a start-up that was successfully acquired by United Technologies Corp. She spearheaded the development of the big data vertical at GTRI\, was an Assistant Professor in Medical Physics at the University of Western Australia\, an Assistant Program Manager for the National Science Foundation\, a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow. Early in her career she worked on microprocessors for IBM.\n\nDr Sharma’s PhD is in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University. She enjoys difficult challenges\, jobs with overly long titles\, developing big-picture strategies\, communicating scientific and technical ideas to non-scientists\, performing science stand-up comedy\, sewing\, and smoking various foods.\n\n\nJessica Owens – \n\nJessica is a graduate of KSU with a BA in Geography and a Certificate in GIS. Her projects focus on the spatial implications of development on communities and water resources. In her spare time\, she volunteers for the Yellow River Water Trail and is a Director on the Mountain Park Community Association with the hope of supporting residents in building a healthier more resilient future. \n\n\n  \nGeorgia Science Junction

DESCRIPTION:Science for Georgia is proud to be a part of the Georgia Coalition for Environmental Policy and Protection (GCEPP). \nYour legislators need to hear from you! Your voice is critical in advancing the needs of our community. Remember\, your legislator works for you.\n\nPlease join GCEPP for Environmental Justice Day on Jan 29th from 8am to 2pm. This day will include training on issues and opportunities to meet with your legislator. We will begin at Central Presbyterian Church (201 Washington St SW\, Atlanta\, GA 30303) with coffee and training\, and then walk to the State Capitol together.\n\n\nEJ DAY – Thursday Jan 29\, 2026\nCentral Presbyterian Church\, 201 Washington St SW\, Atlanta\, GA 30303\n(Across the street from GA State Capitol)\n8:00 AM – 2 PM\n8:00 – Check-In – continental breakfast (pastries\, coffee\, juices)\n8:35 – Welcome; training on engaging lawmakers\, review of legislation\n9:10 – Group picture in front of the Capitol\n9:20 – 11:50 Meet with your legislator\, planned meetings (or meeting at the ropes)\n12:00 – 2:00 Box lunch at church – report back on meetings with legislators\, share experience\, next steps\n\n\nWe strive to ensure that everyone can participate fully.
