SUMMARY:Things Can Be Better: How to Change Minds and Stop Propaganda
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, September 28th\, 2-3pm \nIn-Person \nLocation: Charis Books & More\, 184 S. Candler St.\, Decatur\, GA 30030 \nFeatured Speaker: Michael Czajkowski\, PhD\n \nThings Can Be Better: How to Change Minds and Stop Propaganda \n  \nJoin us as we share this important talk with Charis Books & More! This Talk is FREE to all attendees! \n \n  \nThis event takes place in person at Charis and on Crowdcast\, Charis’ virtual event platform. This event is free\, but registration is required for virtual attendance. Click here to register to attend virtually. Please read the in-person event guidelines to be sure you can participate in the event. \n  \nCharis welcomes Michael Czajkowski for Things Can Be Better: How to Change Minds and Stop Propaganda\, a workshop around propaganda\, misinformation\, and offering hope and skills for a way forward. \nWorkshop Description \nI feel vulnerable. Everyday I feel strained and uncertain about my future and safety due to current events. Maybe you do too. To make real progress seems to require the changing of so many minds that feel so close yet so far away. This might feel bleak to you\, but I feel hope about this. Based in science. This workshop is to spread this hope. \nI will review the lesser-known and yet most powerful challenges to the progress of society\, which will be difficult to face. We will then go through a large-scale strategy which turns these challenges into advantages. Finally\, core to this strategy is a lesser known set of interpersonal communication habits\, which we will practice together. \n  \nThe event is free and open to all people\, especially to those who have no income or low income\, but we encourage and appreciate a donation of $5-20 in support of the work of Charis Circle\, our programming non-profit. Charis Circle’s mission is to foster sustainable feminist communities\, work for social justice\, and encourage the expression of diverse and marginalized voices. Donate on Crowdcast or via their website. \n  \n \nWorkshop Facilitator: Michael Czajkowski\, PhD \nMichael Czajkowski is the Director of Advocacy for the nonprofit Science for Georgia working on community science translation projects to support community autonomy\, awareness of environmental health threats\, and resistance against more general forms of misinformation and manipulation. They have diverse experiences working in art\, science\, facilitation\, community organizing and many different levels of education\, which is hopefully leading to useful new insights and perspectives. Michael’s background in soft matter physics is not so relevant to this\, but is pretty fun and they love to talk about it. \n

SUMMARY:Monthly South River Water Testing - September
DESCRIPTION:Date: Sunday\, September 21\, 2025 \nTime: 10 am \nLocation: Everett Park \nAddress: 5106 Klondike Rd\, Stonecrest\, GA 30038 \nWe will linger in the parking lot for 5-10 minutes before heading down the trail along the water to those first shoals\, where we will be doing our testing and mingling etc…. \nThis past year at our Environmental Justice Forums/Townhalls we heard that people want to know more about what health risks from water and air are in their neighborhoods. So we have started on two approaches to that. First is the water testing project mentioned above. Adopt-A-Stream is a state program consisting of volunteers collecting data on the water sources in their neighborhoods and the area around Everett Park along the South River is not represented in this testing project. So we are getting this started\, not just to gather and monitor data\, but to help the community learn about water testing along the way.

SUMMARY:Rally: Sound Science Saves Lives
DESCRIPTION:Time\n\n\nSaturday\, August 16\n10:30 – 11:30am EDT\n\nLocation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n10th Street Northeast & Peachtree Street Northeast\nAtlanta\, GA 30309 \nMap\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n  \nScience and public research are under attack in this country. Indiscriminate cuts to federal research agencies and political interference are causing research studies to be paused\, programs halted\, and communications muzzled. \nJoin federal employees\, researchers\, healthcare providers\, advocates\, and allies as we speak out against these attacks. We’ll be waving signs and speaking out from 10:30 – 11:30 on Saturday\, August 16th\, at the intersection of 10th St and Peachtree St in Atlanta. We’re demanding a return to well funded\, scientifically sound\, research and public health programming that is free from political interference. \nThe event is sponsored by: Fired But Fighting\, Stand Up for Science\, Science for Ga\, CDC Alumni & Friends\, Indivisible Georgia Coalition\, STAND\, 50501. \nNote: This event is taking place before the start of the International Society of Exposure Science (ISES) and the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology’s (ISEE) annual meeting. We welcome conference participants to join us if they can\, but this rally is not an official part of the meeting’s program or sponsored by either society. \nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. \nSign Up to Let us know you are coming \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nKnow your rights for peaceful protests! \n\nAccessibility\n\nMainly flat ground\nNo stairs or steps

SUMMARY:Monthly South River Water Testing - April
DESCRIPTION:Date: Sunday\, April 20\, 2025 \nTime: 10 am \nLocation: Everett Park \nAddress: 5106 Klondike Rd\, Stonecrest\, GA 30038 \nWe will linger in the parking lot for 5-10 minutes before heading down the trail along the water to those first shoals\, where we will be doing our testing and mingling etc….
