SUMMARY:Monthly South River Water Testing - February
DESCRIPTION:Date: Sunday\, February 15\, 2026 \nTime: 10 am \nLocation: Everett Park \nAddress: 5106 Klondike Rd\, Stonecrest\, GA 30038 \nWe will linger in the parking lot for 5-10 minutes before heading down the trail along the water to those first shoals\, where we will be doing our testing and mingling etc…. \nAt our Environmental Justice Forums/Townhalls we heard that people want to know more about what health risks from water and air are in their neighborhoods. So we have started on two approaches to that. First is the water testing project mentioned above. Adopt-A-Stream is a state program consisting of volunteers collecting data on the water sources in their neighborhoods and the area around Everett Park along the South River is not represented in this testing project. So we are getting this started\, not just to gather and monitor data\, but to help the community learn about water testing along the way.

SUMMARY:Unearthing Farm Soil Restoration- A Plant Salvaging Event
DESCRIPTION:Sat\, Nov 15th – Sun\, Nov 16th\, 2025\n12 PM – 5 PM\nSHIFTS\nShift 1\nSat\, Nov 15th\, 2025\n12 PM – 5 PM \nShift 2\nSun\, Nov 16th\, 2025\n12 PM – 5 PM \nLocation: Unearthing Farm & Market: 1534 Memorial Drive Southeast\, Atlanta\, GA \nPlease Register Here and let us know you are coming \n  \n\nAbout the event\n\nWith the recent soil testing at Unearthing Farm and market\, which has revealed elevated lead levels prompting them to pause many activities and programs at the farm. \nThis setback is significant\, but their mission to create healthy\, inclusive food access for Atlanta remains unwavering. To continue their work in community building and food distribution\, they had to explore potential remediation strategies. \nOne of those strategies is that Unearthing Farm is working towards total soil restoration\, requiring an excavation of the land. They are in the process of planning a two day event to salvage plants and trees that are essential to the farm’s mission. \nTogether they aim to cultivate a vibrate community green space through a hyper local farm and market. \n\n\n\nWhat will volunteers do?\n\nVolunteers will support the farm by supporting the salvaging of trees and plants before the excavation of the land begins. \nUnearthing Farm needs support with pruning\, trimming and repotting plants into their temporary home. A workshop will happen before the repotting begins to show volunteers the most supportive way to transition the plants and trees. \n\n\n\nWhat will volunteers need to bring or wear?\n\nPlease wear long sleeve\, pants and close toed shoes. PPE (masks\, booties and gloves) will be provided to everyone during this event and we asks that all volunteers utilizes what’s provided.

SUMMARY:Monthly South River Water Testing - October
DESCRIPTION:Date: Sunday\, October 19\, 2025 \nTime: 10 am \nLocation: Everett Park \nAddress: 5106 Klondike Rd\, Stonecrest\, GA 30038 \nWe will linger in the parking lot for 5-10 minutes before heading down the trail along the water to those first shoals\, where we will be doing our testing and mingling etc…. \nThis past year at our Environmental Justice Forums/Townhalls we heard that people want to know more about what health risks from water and air are in their neighborhoods.

SUMMARY:Things Can Be Better: How to Change Minds and Stop Propaganda
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, September 28th\, 2-3pm \nIn-Person \nLocation: Charis Books & More\, 184 S. Candler St.\, Decatur\, GA 30030 \nFeatured Speaker: Michael Czajkowski\, PhD\n \nThings Can Be Better: How to Change Minds and Stop Propaganda \n  \nJoin us as we share this important talk with Charis Books & More! This Talk is FREE to all attendees! \n \n  \nThis event takes place in person at Charis and on Crowdcast\, Charis’ virtual event platform. This event is free\, but registration is required for virtual attendance. Click here to register to attend virtually. Please read the in-person event guidelines to be sure you can participate in the event. \n  \nCharis welcomes Michael Czajkowski for Things Can Be Better: How to Change Minds and Stop Propaganda\, a workshop around propaganda\, misinformation\, and offering hope and skills for a way forward. \nWorkshop Description \nI feel vulnerable. Everyday I feel strained and uncertain about my future and safety due to current events. Maybe you do too. To make real progress seems to require the changing of so many minds that feel so close yet so far away. This might feel bleak to you\, but I feel hope about this. Based in science. This workshop is to spread this hope. \nI will review the lesser-known and yet most powerful challenges to the progress of society\, which will be difficult to face. We will then go through a large-scale strategy which turns these challenges into advantages. Finally\, core to this strategy is a lesser known set of interpersonal communication habits\, which we will practice together. \n  \nThe event is free and open to all people\, especially to those who have no income or low income\, but we encourage and appreciate a donation of $5-20 in support of the work of Charis Circle\, our programming non-profit. Charis Circle’s mission is to foster sustainable feminist communities\, work for social justice\, and encourage the expression of diverse and marginalized voices. Donate on Crowdcast or via their website. \n  \n \nWorkshop Facilitator: Michael Czajkowski\, PhD \nMichael Czajkowski is the Director of Advocacy for the nonprofit Science for Georgia working on community science translation projects to support community autonomy\, awareness of environmental health threats\, and resistance against more general forms of misinformation and manipulation. They have diverse experiences working in art\, science\, facilitation\, community organizing and many different levels of education\, which is hopefully leading to useful new insights and perspectives. Michael’s background in soft matter physics is not so relevant to this\, but is pretty fun and they love to talk about it. \n

SUMMARY:Monthly South River Water Testing - July
DESCRIPTION:Date: Sunday\, July 20\, 2025 \nTime: 10 am \nLocation: Everett Park \nAddress: 5106 Klondike Rd\, Stonecrest\, GA 30038 \nWe will linger in the parking lot for 5-10 minutes before heading down the trail along the water to those first shoals\, where we will be doing our testing and mingling etc…. \nThis past year at our Environmental Justice Forums/Townhalls we heard that people want to know more about what health risks from water and air are in their neighborhoods.
