SUMMARY:Monthly South River Water Testing - February
DESCRIPTION:Date: Sunday\, February 15\, 2026 \nTime: 10 am \nLocation: Everett Park \nAddress: 5106 Klondike Rd\, Stonecrest\, GA 30038 \nWe will linger in the parking lot for 5-10 minutes before heading down the trail along the water to those first shoals\, where we will be doing our testing and mingling etc…. \nAt our Environmental Justice Forums/Townhalls we heard that people want to know more about what health risks from water and air are in their neighborhoods. So we have started on two approaches to that. First is the water testing project mentioned above. Adopt-A-Stream is a state program consisting of volunteers collecting data on the water sources in their neighborhoods and the area around Everett Park along the South River is not represented in this testing project. So we are getting this started\, not just to gather and monitor data\, but to help the community learn about water testing along the way.

SUMMARY:CST: Mopeds are Cheap and Fun and you can do it too! - RESCHEDULE
DESCRIPTION:Mopeds are Cheap and Fun and you can do it too! \nDate: Nov 9th\, 2025 \nTime: 6pm \nLocation: South River Art Studios 1300 Fleetwood Dr SE\, Atlanta\, GA 30316 \nParking: ample and free \nSunday Nov 9th\, we will be back down at South River Art Studios for the Rescheduled mopeds course. Still got two mopeds in pieces\, so come look and learn! We will cover even more than last time! \nSurvival and sustainability go hand in hand. Not everyone can ride a bike everywhere and gas is getting more expensive and shortages are always possible. But Mopeds (really motor scooters) get around 100 miles per gallon! You can get a moped for cheap and getting a moped is a great way to learn about engines and gain useful knowledge for things like generators and lawnmowers and tractors and motorcycles and other alternative vehicles. And you can get a moped cheap. I recently got 3 mopeds for $200 and I’m going to bring you all along with the process of inspecting them\, diagnosing problems\, and diving in to fix them! Come on by its gonna be fun! \nPlease wear warm clothes\, we will be outside with the mopeds quite a bit. \nClimate Survival Training

SUMMARY:Monthly South River Water Testing - August
DESCRIPTION:Date: Sunday\, August 17\, 2025 \nTime: 10 am \nLocation: Everett Park \nAddress: 5106 Klondike Rd\, Stonecrest\, GA 30038 \nWe will linger in the parking lot for 5-10 minutes before heading down the trail along the water to those first shoals\, where we will be doing our testing and mingling etc…. \nThis past year at our Environmental Justice Forums/Townhalls we heard that people want to know more about what health risks from water and air are in their neighborhoods.

SUMMARY:CST: Red Wiggler Wrangling - DIY Worm Farming
DESCRIPTION:Red Wiggler Wrangling – DIY Worm Farming!\nPostponed due to Inclement weather – New date Saturday\, February 15th\nSaturday\, February 15\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n11:00am – 1:30pm\nSalem-Panola Library\n\n\n\n\n\n\n5137 Salem Rd\, Stonecrest\, GA 30038 \nA hands on vermiculture workshop by Science for Georgia. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWant to make friends with Earth’s most benevolent creature? RSVP to claim one of 20 worm farm kits at this dual lecture/interactive workshop! Worm farming\, or vermiculture\, is a method of composting using specific species of worms that can transform scraps into nutrients three times as fast as your average compost pile while requiring even less maintenance. The species we will be focusing on\, colloquially known as the Red Wiggler\, are exceptionally resilient and well suited to live undetected inside your home or out. \nVermiculture makes a rewarding hobby\, connects us with nature\, and teaches valuable lessons about a circular economy. If you are looking to reduce your carbon footprint\, purify your soil\, protect your crops\, reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers\, or just ground yourself with the rhythms of life\, look no further than the RSVP button below! \nWe will begin the session with some scientific context on the significance of these humble invertebrates and their effect on soil and environmental health\, learn tips about re-using & recycling material\, and learn how to make choices for your worms based on your outcome goals. Next\, our resourceful volunteers will lead us through manipulating 5-gallon buckets with power tools for a suitable dwelling fit for a Red Wiggler. \nBring a friend or family member\, let’s roll up our sleeves\, and dig deep into the science and methods of maintaining a healthy environment for your new clean up crew\, the Red Wiggler worms! \nPlease note: attendees MUST come to this CST in closed-toe shoes and clothes you are comfortable working in or getting a little messy. If you would like to bring your own containers (to better fit your space)\, please indicate so on the sign-up form. We encourage attendees to bring your own materials (power drills\, sandpaper\, eye protection\, etc) if you would like to reduce your waiting time. Please bring extra towels or tarps if you are worried about transporting your system home. \n  \nWant to bring your own containers? Use the guide below to help you find containers suitable for your space!  \n \n \n\n\n  \nClimate Survival Training

\nAlso\, we will stick around after to have a bit of an educational meeting about the future of Climate Survival Trainings\, so don’t miss that! \nClimate Survival Training

SUMMARY:Climate Survival Training: Sustainable Homegrown Protein Sources
DESCRIPTION:Climate Survival Training: Sustainable Homegrown Protein Sources (BUGS) \n## Oct 6th 1 pm – 3 pm \n### CreateATL \n900 Murphy Ave SW\, Atlanta\, Georgia 30310 \n\nThis Climate Survival event is a production of Science for Georgia.\nIt is free and open to the public.\nSeating is on a first-come basis.\nDonations are appreciated.\nThe presentation gets under way around 1pm.\nLocation: CreateATL\, 900 Murphy Ave SW\, Atlanta\, Georgia 30310\n\nInsect farming can produce efficient\, shelf-stable\, and sustainable protein without taking up the space of a farm. Our friends at WunderGrubs make a business out of this using just a couple shipping containers! Insects are healthy to eat\, highly nutritious\, used as a significant food source by millions worldwide\, and cut down by orders of magnitude on environmental impacts compared to animal protein farming practices. You don’t have to eat bugs! You can eat bug related products that aren’t buggy at all! They create protein powder which is great in smoothies\, pastas\, sauces\, etc! Its easy and fun! \nCome learn with us at CreateATL on Sunday\, Oct 6th at 1pm! We will be led around the facility at WunderGrubs by founder Akissi Stokes to learn together about this sustainable resilient food source! \nFree admission and parking in the neighborhood! \n  \n\n\nSpeaker\n\n\n\n\n\nAkissi Stokes-Nelson\, Co-Founder at WunderGrubs\n\n\nWe’re Akissi and Karim\, founders of WunderGrubs. The idea for WunderGrubs sparked years ago one night while we were watching Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations\, Haiti.\nIt inspired us to seek out a protein food source that provides people with the sustenance they need after a climatic shock and once the food relief trucks leave. Yet\, requires very few agricultural inputs such as water\, electricity\, feed\, and land which were typically scarce after such an occurrence. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFill out my LGL Form!

SUMMARY:CST: Essential Bicycle Maintenance
DESCRIPTION:On April 3rd at 6pm\, we will have a Climate Survival Training about repairing bikes\, led by Benjamin Kasavan from SOPO\, and hosted by Piedmont Park (at their community center location next to Willy’s). \nWe will be covering basic bike maintenance and repairs that will keep your bicycle running smoothly for longer! Learn routine maintenance\, such as cleaning your chain and making minor brake adjustments\, and learn how to repair a flat tire! Don’t sit in traffic\, plunge into the bliss of bicycles! \n \nBenjamin first got involved with bicycles at 8 years old racing with Star Track at the Kissenna Park Velodrome in NYC. While he doesn’t race anymore\, he has never stopped biking. Beyond biking around town\, he has been volunteering with DIY bicycle shops since 2015 and has been a shop manager at SOPO Bicycle Cooperative since 2019. He believes that bicycling is a powerful force not only for transportation\, but also for community building\, resilience\, and self-empowerment. \nFollow this link to Sign Up. \n \n  \nCST Bike Repair
